How to use it
- Pick the image. On a phone, take a photo or choose one from the gallery. JPG, PNG and WebP work; iPhone HEIC photos are converted by the phone when you pick them.
- The rule is already set to under 20 KB. If the portal also states a minimum (for example “10 to 20 KB”), tap Change and type both numbers. Add a width and height only if the form asks for exact pixels.
- Download when the result says READY TO UPLOAD. The file name is short, lowercase and free of spaces, which some portals insist on.
KB or KiB: why 20 KB is not always 20,000 bytes
Two conventions exist. One kilobyte (KB) is 1,000 bytes; one kibibyte (KiB) is 1,024 bytes. Windows and many upload forms use 1,024 while still writing “KB”, so a file of 20,300 bytes reads as 19.8 KiB on one screen and 20.3 KB on another. SizePrep plays it safe: a file is only marked ready when it fits under both readings, with a small margin, and the result card shows all three numbers.
Why upload forms reject images
- Over the limit by a few bytes. A file compressed to exactly 20 KB by another tool can still be 20,480 bytes. SizePrep stays inside a safety margin.
- Wrong format. Most Indian portals want JPG or JPEG; PNG, HEIC and WebP are often refused. This tool always produces a standard JPG.
- Photo sideways. Phone photos carry a rotation flag that some portals ignore. SizePrep bakes the correct orientation into the pixels and removes the flag.
- File name. Spaces, brackets and non-English characters trip up older portals. Downloads here are named like
photo-under-20kb.jpg. - Transparent background. A signature saved as a transparent PNG can turn black on conversion. SizePrep flattens it onto white first.
- Too small. Some forms also enforce a minimum (say 10 KB). Tap Change and type the minimum too; SizePrep raises quality and detail to reach it and never pads a file with junk bytes.
